On October 4, 2022, the Office of the Mayor met with the representatives from Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (CARRD) to explore possible opportunities for collaboration on data sharing and utilization of Geographical Information System (GIS) maps on agrarian reform. CARRD, one of the accredited Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) by the Sangguniang Bayan whose mission is to help the farmers, works on improving the database system particularly in identifying lands for food production and biodiversity conservation as well as improving real property tax mapping.
CARRD Executive Director Ms. Marie Joy Demaluan said that they proposed this collaboration on data sharing and utilization of GIS maps so that “hindi lang distributed ang lands, but [there is] quality distribution.” In the meeting, they presented their mapping of Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) lands which they based from the approved survey plans of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
Municipal Administrator Gonzalo Baral offered assistance from the municipal planning department to address the overlapping layers in the map plotting. EnP. Minerva Codizal, head of Municipal Planning and Development Office and Engr. John Leo Rosas, Project Development Officer II, who were also present during the meeting assured support to improve such initiatives.
Coincided with the meeting, Maam Mariefe L. Del Mundo, Stakeholder Engagement Manager of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) discussed about the tree-growing initiatives of the foundation in Balayan. In accordance to this, a Tree Growing Partnership Launch and Ceremonial Tree Planting in Brgy. Lucban, Balayan is expected to be held on October 28, 2022. To formalize and further strengthen the partnership, a Ceremonial Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding among the stakeholders will follow through at the Balayan Government Center.
